Four Life-Changing Trips for Solo Female Travelers

These itineraries empower and unite women worldwide.

It’s no secret that women traveling alone is on-the-rise. According to research from online-booking software provider TrekkSoft, the search term “solo female travel” grew by 52 percent between 2016 and 2017, while a majority of travel agents noted more women take solo trips than men, according to a poll conducted by Travel Guard.

“Women aren’t waiting until the kids are grown – they’re working and need that time away,” says Judi Glass, a Virtuoso travel advisor. Solo trips allow the female traveler to pursue her own interests without worrying about anyone else. And the right getaway can literally be life-changing, Glass says: “Exercise, nutritional eating, and meeting and connecting with new people – women just do not have time for these things in their busy daily lives.”

Bring up to three girlfriends on Grand Velas Los Cabos’ Alpha Female Adventure Getaway – or fly solo. The five-night package is designed with high-achievers in mind: Participants hike through the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve, soak in a hot spring, bike along the beach, and snorkel and paddle board during a private three-hour yachting excursion. After all the exertion, settle in for an 80-minute four-hands massage incorporating Mexican tequila, also included. Working hard and playing hard never felt better.

ME to WE

Girls and women ages 15 to 20 years old have the chance to expand their worldview on ME to WE’s India Women’s Empowerment Trip, which offers meaningful connections, hyper-immersion and volunteer opportunities. Spend time in a mother- and child-care center, get to know a local female leader, help out at a women’s goat-breeding coop, cook a traditional meal, and hear about gender inequality from high-school students. The goal is to change lives – but don’t be surprised if it’s you who’s transformed. August 10-26, 2020.
